How Your Limiting Beliefs Protect You…

The thing about limiting beliefs is that they can be so much a part of your thinking that you often don’t know that you have them and certainly don’t ever question their authority over you.  Limiting beliefs are sometimes defined as the “don’ts, can’ts, won’ts, and shouldn’ts.  They keep your world small to protect you from stretching your comfort zone.

Do you realize that you think up to 70K thoughts per day.  Most of your thoughts are negative or memories of the past.  When a thought tries to escape the confines of your limited world, you quickly return it to its place with thoughts of can’t, won’t or shouldn’t.  This too can be a unconscious process to keep you tethered to your fear.

What if the good news is that you’re wrong.  If only one person in the world has successfully challenged their limiting beliefs to achieve a dream, that means that you can too!

But how, you ask…

Well, How badly do you want Your dream?

If you really don’t want it badly enough to put anything at stake, it’s probably not worth the effort to even think about– so you can stop wasting your precious thought energy on it.  Perhaps it’s just a ‘should’ that you can eliminate.

Why do you want it?

What’s driving you?  Is it to compensate for an inner lack or is it a passion calling to you?  Get clear on what your limiting beliefs are protecting and you just might find your answers.

What are you willing to put at stake?

Your time?  Your money?  Your energy?  Your relationships?  Your life? The answer to this question will indicate how important it is to you to challenge and overcome your limiting beliefs.

Are you willing to fail?

Failure is one of your best teachers.  You will learn more from failure than you will ever learn from success.  If you are willing to include failure as part of the journey without letting it stop you, you have a very good chance of overcoming your limiting beliefs.  Discouragement is often a partner to failure.  If you can also welcome discouragement– congratulations, you’re on your way.

What’s your relationship with patience?

Celebrating baby steps–two steps forward, one step back—gives the achievement of your goal a very healthy prognosis.

In summary, your limiting beliefs protect a small world inside of your comfort zone.  You can live in that box but there’s a lot more aliveness in the unknown.

Challenge yourself by changing one small thing daily.  Take a different route to work.  Make a new friend.  Try a food that you decided long ago that you didn’t like.  Learn something new by daily listening to one of You Tube’s million podcasts.

What about deeply seated limiting beliefs

You may need an intervention that bypasses the conscious mind to transform deeply ingrained patterns.  Hypnosis and/or Emotional Freedom Technique is a therapy that accesses higher states of mind in order to reprogram deeply held limiting beliefs.  Change your beliefs to change your world—one step at a time.

The Most Profound Gift You Can Give Another

The most profound gift we can give one another is our attention~

I don’t know said this but I love it.  I recall my first experience of feeling fully attended to.  It was when I saw a counselor in my early 20’s.  I will always remember how he gave me his undivided attention.  I felt like the most important person in his world.  I can’t even recall what he said to me.  His words were eclipsed by his rapt attention.  This experience of being received fully has had a deep and profound effect on my life and the way I listen to others.

In my desire to emulate this skill of attentive listening, I have become aware of

Ineffective Listening Skills:

  • Half-hearted listening for a pause to talk
  • Interrupting—‘the cardinal sin’
  • Listening to disagree or argue
  • Listening to ‘make-wrong’
  • Listening to give advice
  • Listening to one-up
  • And the list goes on and on….

Effective Listening Skills:

  • Being aware of the value of the gift of your presence
  • Making eye contact
  • Giving your undivided attention
  • Letting go of your agenda
  • Pausing before you respond
  • Being in non-judgment
  • Affirming the speaker to indicate that you have been listening
  • Knowing that it is not your job to solve their problem–your

only job is to hold a space of compassion and acceptance for them.

I challenge you to practice the skill of being an effective listener.  Be patient..  You might even notice a positive effect upon your relationships…

Five Secret Ingredients for Manifesting Lasting Change…

Being a life-long student of human potential, I am passionate about discovering methods to achieve real change in life versus rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.  In my quest for body, mind and spirit wholeness, I have discovered three teachers that share timeless wisdom.  Neville Goddard,  Dr. Wayne Dyer and Dr. Joe Dispenza all have a similar message regarding  lasting change.

  1.  Begin with the end.  Visualize already having manifested your desired change.  Feel how you will feel   Desire it with full passion.  Train your mind to only focus on what you want—not on what you do not want or do not have.
  1. Add gratitude.  Gratitude is the motivating ‘glue’ that creates the transformational alchemy necessary for change.  Cultivating deep gratitude is the secret.  As Eric Butterworth,  legendary Unity pioneer tells us,  “gratitude is a causative energy, not a reactionary emotion.”
  1. Passion:  Do you desire your desire more than anything?  Is it the driving force in your life?  Can you feel, taste, smell and visualize it?
  1. Surrender: Let go of your attachment to outcome.  Your only job is to design it, visualize it and release it.  “This or something better…”
  1.   Meditate daily on already having achieved your intention.  Consistency is a big time game-changer.   Consistency is key.

What changes do you desire in your life so passionately that you are willing to exercise these 5 steps with consistency to make it happen?  Be honest.  If the answer is “nothing” that’s okay.  Just don’t torture yourself by saying that you really want something but you just can’t manifest it.    You absolutely can –if you follow the steps with consistency.

presidential bobble heads important figures donald trump

Thank-You, Donald Trump…

Our recent Presidential election can be seen as a wake-up call of the highest order.  Had Hillary Clinton clinched the deal, many speculate that things would be business as usual and we could have continued sleep-walking through life.  Not so with our current President-elect, Donald Trump.  While it is easy to project our power on the President and expect trickle-down change, we’ve all seen the dismal results this approach delivers.  I propose a radical idea that actually, I cannot claim: Change begins with you and me.  Yes, change starts with grass-roots.  It’s bottom up.  Never, top down.  That’s us, folks.

Funny how we fall for this wishful thinking scam every four years when we buy into corporate marketing thinly disguised as campaign promises. Mr. Snowden reminds us to be cautious about putting too much faith or fear in a President.  Candidates say whatever they think will win them the election.  We know this.  Yet, we still continue to fall for it.  We continue to be angry and disappointed when it doesn’t work.  We forget that it never works–because the real work is our job.  Change begins with you and me.

Given that life is a mirror, our President reflects our individual consciousness.  It seems we’ve got a lot of work to do ahead.  Where to begin?  Perhaps with self-reflection:  Where am I prejudiced? How am I self-absorbed?  Where might I lack compassion?  How am I manipulative?  Where can I practice a little more kindness?  Perhaps it is time for us to take a ‘fearless moral inventory’ and stop looking to a political figure to do it for us.  Along with transforming our inner landscape, here are some ways you can you use your energy for positive outcome in the world:

*Empower Yourself

Get involved in politics at a local level.  Help get progressives elected.  Our local elections influence our lives more than national elections do.  It’s a great place to put your energy.  Knowing that you are doing your part is an awesome feeling.

*Stay Present in the Moment

How Will You Know?  When you’re feeling anxious or fearful, let that be a reminder that you have slipped out of the now.  Avoid ‘chicken-little’ thinking.  Breathe.  Come back to the moment.  It will restore your perspective.

*Be Curious About Your Charges

When you get triggered by other opinions, take the high road.  Teach respect by your actions.  Remember that you do not need agreement from anyone.  When you get activated by the news, put down the article or turn off the TV.  Breathe.  Ask yourself what inside is being activated from your own life?  Find the message it may hold for you.

*Reset Often

Imagine and hold your desired outcome.  Imagination is more powerful than thought.  Visualize the world you want to live in and remember to be the change you want to see in the world.  “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,” is our golden opportunity at this critical time in history.  Imagine what we could create together…
